In yesterdays Surface event by Windows, Windows has revealed some interesting surface products like Surface 2 Studio, Surface Pro 6, Surface 2 Laptop and Surface headphones. In the same event, Windows also announced that the Windows 10 October update is available. This news got lost in the glory of Surface laptops and headphones. Windows 10 October update is pretty big and has the potential to make already helpful WIndows a better product. In this article, I’ll be showing you all the new and popular features of this update.
Your Phone App
The biggest and probably the best feature of this new update is its ‘Your Phone‘ app for Android and iPhone. Now you can access your messages, reply and send messages, access your photos right from your Windows 10. You can also copy, edit and Ink photos right from your phone without touching your Android phone. All these features are for available on Android 7.0 and above users for the moment. Here is a video by Microsoft showing how it works.
And for iPhone users, Microsoft says, you can browse the internet on the phone and then send the webpage instantly to your Windows to view on a bigger screen. ‘Your Phone‘ app is available on Microsoft store which you can download for free and connect your Microsoft PC to enjoy the features.
This has to be my favorite feature of the bunch. As a blogger, I always find myself copying different things for different purposes. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V work well only until I have few lines to copy. Things get to start messier when I try to copy a word, again and again, to paste in different contexts. Windows solves this problem by using cloud clipboard. That means all your copied text, images, and HTML stays in cloud clipboard for you to access anytime you want. To access this new clipboard, just press Windows+V, and you can see all the copied text and images at the same place for you to access.
It is also important to note that, Windows currently only supports file up to 1MB for cloud clipboard.
Snip & Sketch
Snip & Sketch is a new screen grabbing tool for Windows 10 users. This new app was first introduced a couple of months back in the Windows Ink Space with a different name. But now this is an app for all the Windows 10 users with the latest update. Essentially it is a screen grabbing tool with loads of features. Some of the interesting features include timmer setting, drawing on the picture, crop to different shapes, and edit picture. You can access this new tool by pressing Windows+ Shift + S. You can also trigger by pressing Print Screen button from your keyboard or by clicking the button on digital pen if you are using.
Some other interesting features of Windows 10 October update are:
- Windows time app for Android and iPhone to find all the documents and files at the same place without going through all the files.
- Microsoft todo app which is around for a couple of months has a new update. Now you can sync all your todo across device by just signing in to your Microsoft account. ToDo app also now supports Ink and digital pen.
- Now you can use Ink on Powerpoint and Word. By using this, you can give your imagination a new look. AI will turn your sketch into workable slides. How cool is that!
Microsoft has added bucket load of features to this update. I’ve only listed those I found interesting and useful. You can read all about Windows 10 October update and its feature on Windows blog.
